GSG Awards and Fellowships

As the UC graduate student government body, the Graduate Student Government (GSG) provides a united voice across program and college lines, advocating on behalf of the UC graduate student population.

As part of their mission to make the graduate student experience as beneficial as possible to students and the university, the GSG administers Conference Travel Awards, graduate student Excellence Awards, and the GSG Research Fellowship. The GSG also coordinates the Presidential Medal of Graduate Student Excellence

These awards are to be used for academic conference travel for both presenting and non-presenting graduate students. All graduate students may apply each fiscal year for up to $500 in funds.

Excellence Awards

Every year the GSG awards outstanding graduate students in various programs in recognition of their academic excellence. Nominations are typically due in late January.

The research fellowship is a competitive award to assist graduate students in furthering their research endeavors. The maximum amount that a student can be awarded is $1200 for the regular Research Fellowship and $1500 for Advancement of Diversity or Interdisciplinary Research Awards. Applications are typically due in November.
