Special Exception: GSHI Award for Part-Time/Non-GA Students

The Graduate College will once again offer a limited number of GSHI awards to part-time/non-GA students. The Graduate College will provide the full annual amount to 100 applicants who are not eligible for the regular GSHI award. A lottery system will be used to select the award recipients.

The deadline to apply was August 27, 11:59 PM. Late applications will not be accepted. Applicants will be notified by August 29, 5 p.m. with the result of their application.

If you have questions or concerns, please email GSHI@ucmail.uc.edu

Award Criteria

To receive this award, you must:

  • Enroll for at least 1 (ONE) graduate credit per academic year. Audited courses do not count toward this minimum. Please note that this requirement does not replace any college, program, or other university policy requiring you to register at a higher level.
  • Maintain university student health insurance coverage throughout the qualifying award term. For more information about enrollment, contact the Student Health Insurance Office. Please note that students matriculated into online programs (academic sub-plans beginning with an asterisk " * ") are ineligible for UC SHI coverage, and are therefore ineligible for the GSHI awards.

If a student does not meet these eligibility requirements throughout the qualifying award term, then he or she will forfeit the Graduate Student Health Insurance Award for that semester. This will result in the full amount of the award being removed from the student’s UC account.

Students who meet the criteria for the regular GSHI Award may not apply for this special exception award.

If a graduate student waives the university student health insurance, they will not be eligible for any GSHI Award. The GSHI award funds can only be applied to the UC Student Health Insurance charge on the student bill.
