Kindness Champion Award Recipients

Hannah Frame, Ph.D. student in Environmental & Industrial Hygiene – Nominated by Jun Wang, PhD

"Hannah consistently demonstrates genuine kindness, empathy, and leadership in our department and program. She readily offers support to other fellow students, academically, professionally, and personally, and is often the first to welcome and assist new members of our program. During interdisciplinary field trips and collaborative activities, Hannah goes out of her way to help faculty and peers, frequently volunteering behind the scenes to ensure others feel included and supported. She has also proactively reached out to faculty to offer her assistance as a teaching assistant when needed. As a student leader, Hannah revitalized and now leads our AIHA student chapter, actively connecting students with the local AIHA Ohio Valley Section to foster mentoring and professional development opportunities. Her generosity, patience, and unwavering dedication to building a supportive and inclusive community make her an exemplary model of kindness and collaboration."

Eaman Abay, Ph.D. student in Developmental and Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine -  Nominated by Brittany Allison, Ph.D.

"Eaman is the current President for the Black Biomedical Graduates (BBG) student organization and served as a mentor for our NIH- funded Post-bacc Research Education Program (PREP). As President of BBG, Eaman has created a strong sense of community through prioritizing collaborative efforts with other graduate student organizations. For example, BBG hosts a welcome back picnic for all organizational members at the start of the academic year. This year, Eaman prioritized collaboration and worked with the other student groups to host a joint welcome back to school BBQ. At the picnic, Eaman talked to nearly every student and assured they felt welcome, all while commanding the grill and assuming major event coordination responsibilities, such as clean up and budgeting. Eaman has also joined our office at major outreach and recruitment events, where she interacted with over 100+ prospective students. Eaman represents all the best parts of not only a leader, but a very kind leader. Additionally, Eaman served as a graduate student PREP postbac mentor, where she constantly went out of her way to help not just her assigned mentee, but all of the PREP Scholars. She was very proactive with her mentee, reaching out to him often to inquire about his wellbeing and if he needed any help throughout the graduate school application process or even questions about his research. She attended every PREP mentor event, including a trip to the Renaissance Faire, the Krohn Conservatory, and various student lunches where she made sure to check in with all the scholars. Her impact and willingness to connect with people and show a genuine interest in their wellbeing are reasons why we hope you will give her the highest consideration for the kindness award."
